Richard Wyatt

Waynesville, Richard Leon Wyatt, age 66, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Garnett Leon and Viola Louise Haney Wyatt and was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Michelle Fulbright Surrett. He was a supply inspector at Lea Industries, retiring in 2001 with 36 years service. Richard enjoyed spending time in the mountains and on the lakes of western North Carolina, especially fishing at Fontana Lake. He loved Cherokee history and was a Civil War buff. Richard was a member of Barberville Baptist Church and was attending New Beginning Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beverly Smith Wyatt; two daughters, Amy Elaine Wyatt and Joy Beth Wyatt, both of Waynesville; one son, Stacey Travis Wyatt and his wife, Amy, of Canton; one sister, Patricia Miller and her husband, Vinson, of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Evan Alexander Allston, Leah Christine Wyatt, Christian Jeree Wyatt, and Brittany Michelle Surrett. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Chan Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Fulbright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
