Rita Brown

May 18, 1918 — November 25, 2004

Waynesville-Rita Chappell Brown, age 86, of 87 Willow Road, the Greens Condominiums of Waynesville, died Thursday, November 25, 2004 at her residence. A native of Lapeer, Michigan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alan Reid Brown, who died in 1999; and a son, Lt. David C. Brown, who died in 1968. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan. She was a member of Maggie United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She was an avid bridge player, and was a Life Master. She was a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels, was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Brown, and her friend, Jeanne Naber of Waynesville; four sons, Gavin A. Brown and his wife, Jackee, of Waynesville, Reid G. Brown and his wife, Susan, of Asheville, Stephen M. Brown and his wife, Debbie, of Waynesville, and Mark C. Brown and his wife, Frances, of Reno, Nevada; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Reverend David Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the services, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Alan Reid Brown Scholarship, c/o Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
