R L Ledford, 95, of Hot Springs passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Wiley and Genie Cook Ledford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Gertrude, Gladys, Ruth, Cora Lee and Elvie; and four brothers, Glen, Hugh, Jack and Foye Ledford. R L proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was employed with Newport News Shipbuilding, as a welder from 1953 until 1991. In 1991, after retirement he and Polly made their way to Spring Creek. He kept an immaculate yard and enjoyed cheering for UNC’s basketball team.
R L is survived by his wife of 56 years, Polly Ledford; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woody Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until service time at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Rathbone, Heath Sawyers, Kolby Sawyers, Derrick, Scott and Michael Ledford. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll and Brady Askew, Tommy Clark, Clyde Sawyers, Henry Rathbone, James and Cooper Harvey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woody Cemetery Fund, c/o Eva and Reverend Jimmy Moore, 555 Howard Moore Road, Hot Springs, NC 28743.
The care of Mr. Ledford has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
