ROBERT LUCAS BLACK, III
Maggie Valley-Robert Lucas Black, III, age 75, of 144 Highview Drive, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003.
A native of Gainesville, Florida, he had resided in Haywood County since 1972. He was the son of the late Robert L. Black, Jr. and Vera Schug Black. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John C. Black. He graduated from the University of Florida receiving his Masters Degree from the University of South Florida. He was former owner and operator of Mountain Joy Cottages in Maggie Valley and held past positions in administration and financial development.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Marks Black; two sons, Robert C. Black and his wife, Anne, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sam Black and his wife, Susie, of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Cheryl Davis and her husband, Doug, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother, Alan J. Black, of Orlando, Florida; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003 at New Covenant Church with Reverend Dr. Frank Harvey and Reverend Nick Honerkamp officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Monday, April 21, 2003. Pallbearers will be David Blevins, Manuel Hooper, Ernie Gentry, Jack Hughes, Walter Davis, Raymond Martin, Ed Rynning, and Steve Maiberger.
