Robert Christopher Carrie

Robert Christopher Carrie, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and esteemed member of the community, passed away on September 21, 2023 at the Elizabeth House. He was born on March 13, 1958 in Gainesville, Florida to his loving parents, James Robert Carrie and Marjorie Schulz Carrie.

Known as Christopher or Chris to his family and friends, he led a remarkable life filled with passion and dedication. He was the proud owner of a successful landscaping and gardening business. Through his hard work and genuine love for nature, he transformed countless spaces into flourishing gardens that brought joy to all who experienced them. Chris's ability to transform landscapes was truly unparalleled, and his keen eye for design left an indelible mark on the community he served.  As hard as he worked on others’ gardens, he put special effort into his own and his parents’ gardens, which he documented for many years on his blog—outsideclyde.blogspot.com. Connections with gardeners all over the country were established.

In his pursuit of excellence, Chris never ceased to expand his knowledge and skills. He obtained a prestigious bachelor's degree in horticulture that equipped him with the expertise required to fulfill his dreams in the field of landscaping. With every project he undertook, Chris infused his unique creativity and impeccable attention to detail.  He had an encyclopedic knowledge of plants and an interest in photographing them with the same creative eye.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chris embodied the qualities of a true friend and family member. His compassionate nature made him an invaluable asset in all relationships he formed. Chris's family held a special place in his heart; he had astute insight and love for everyone and wanted to make sure all were taken care of, especially his mother, whom he cared for during their time together in North Carolina.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Schulz Carrie, who provided unwavering support throughout his life journey.  His sisters, Cathy Carrie King and Robin (Glenn) Carrie, were not only siblings but also dear friends who shared many cherished memories with Chris. Likewise, his brothers Mark (Karen) Carrie and Patrick (Gina) Carrie, were pillars of strength for him throughout their lives together. He took a genuine interest in the lives and concerns of all his siblings, nieces and nephews (Rachel, Danny, Nick, Kyle, Alexa), cousins and in-laws.

The family will conduct a private Family Service for Christopher at a later date.

The care of Mr. Carrie has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
