Robert Ray "Bobby" Cogburn, age 78, of Johnson Drive, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Doyce and Catherine Thomason Cogburn. Bobby retired from American Enka with over 35 years of service and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a charter member and past president of the Pisgah Activities Committee and an avid Pisgah Bear fan. Bobby was a United States Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Bryce Canyon, a destroyer tender. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Morgan Cogburn; one son, Barry Cogburn and his wife, Kathy, of Canton; one daughter, DeAna Flynn and her husband, Jimmy, of Canton; one sister, Marilyn McDowell of Canton; one brother, Dr. Kerry Cogburn of Clyde; three granddaughters, Brandy Mathews, Tasha Gibson, and Megan Cogburn Woods and her husband, Chris; step-grandson, Lynn Sisti and his wife, Beverly; a step-granddaughter, Angel Sisti; two great-grandsons, Devon Cabe and Kolby Woods; and one great-granddaughter, Emorie Gibson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
