Robert Coward, Sr.

Waynesville, Robert Russell Coward, Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Fred and Moody Parker Coward.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Jane McGinnis Coward, who died in 2005; son, Fred Carver; three sisters, Dorothy Rabb, Ruth Arrington, and Elmina Inman; three brothers, Arthur Coward Carl Coward and Harvey Coward.  Robert worked with Lea Industry for 10 years and then with Wellco until his retirement in 1990.  He was a member of North Hazelwood Baptist Church. Robert was married for 50 years to his wonderful wife, Margaret on August 20, 1950.

Robert is survived by four sons; Robert R. Coward, Jr. (Pat), of Old Fort, William Coward, (Vanita), of Maysville, Georgia, Tommy Carver, and Bobby Allen both of Waynesville; three brothers; Fred Coward, of Saunook, Herbert Coward, of Canton, and J.T. Coward, of Michigan; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; as well as great-great-grandchildren.

Due to COVID-19 precautions a private service will be held.

The care of Mr. Coward has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
