Robert Debord

June 26, 1935 — March 3, 2013

Robert Woodward DeBord "The Silver Fox", 77, of Hendersonville, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 03, 2013 at home. A native of Asheville, he was born at Aston Park Hospital, the son of the late Horace Worley DeBord and Nina Wilson DeBord. A true patriot, Robert was retired from the US Navy after serving for 26 years, serving aboard USS Loeser, USS Spiegel Grove (LSD32) and USS Barbour County. After retiring, he worked for the NASA Tracking Station in Balsam Grove. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 4309 in Brevard; proud Republican and member of the NRA. His family will remember him as a gifted storyteller that never met a stranger, he played a special role in the lives of everyone he met. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Buzzy DeBord.
He is survived by his wife, Annunziata Sarnataro DeBord; children, Assunta DeBord (Tommy) Goforth, Sherrie DeBord Hammond, Robert W. (Carrie) DeBord, II, Diana DeBord Bracken and Michelle DeBord; grandchildren, Stephanie Lettera, Antonio Lettera, Jr., Alan Thompson, Christina Hernandez, Francesca DiRito, Jonathan Justus, Steven and Jonathan Bracken, Aaron Goforth, Nikki Antoniak, Nathan and Gabrielle "Brie" DeBord and Christiano Luker; great-grandchildren, Brendon Hernandez, Eriana Worrell, Sofia Hernandez and Bianca DiRito; brother, Edward DeBord and sister, Margaret (Bill) Hall.

A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 2nd at Coon Tree Picnic Shelter in Pisgah National Forest.
