"A caring and loving man" Canton – Robert Earl Devlin, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late E.N. and Carlie Burch Devlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Kelley Devlin, who passed away in 2014; a brother, Jack Edward Devlin. He was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sonoma #472 Chapter for 50 years as Master Mason. He was also a member of the Shrine Club for many years as a Haywood County Hospital coordinator. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict in China, Japan, and Alaska. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Holcombe and her husband, Calvin, of Canton; a son, Matthew Devlin and his wife, Brenna, of Clyde; three sisters, Martha Jean Logan of Virginia, Elizabeth Ann Rogers of Asheville, and Shirley Marie Kennedy and her husband, Ray, of Florida; a sister-in-law, Betty R. Devlin of Georgia; seven grandchildren, Ashley Ewart, Levi and Lauren Holcombe, Trent, Tanner, Macey, and Micah Devlin; and four great-grandchildren, Conner and Mason Ewart, Danica Holcombe, and Skylar Lowe. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Love and Reverend Nicole Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
