Robert Wayne "Bob" Fisher, age 77, died Friday, August 7, 2009, at his residence after a short illness. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Noel and Pearl Coleman Fisher. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. Robert served the citizens of Buncombe County as District Attorney for 22 years. He retired as the Executive Secretary of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. Robert was a faithful servant to Abernethy United Methodist Church, having perfect attendance in his Sunday School Class for 47 years. He was a charter member of the Buncombe County Rescue Squad and served as founding scoutmaster for Troop 138 in 1966. An avid woodturner, Bob was a charter member of the Carolina Mountain Woodturners. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn S. Fisher; a son, R. Wayne Fisher, Jr., and his wife, Janice, of Canton; three daughters, Sonja Fisher Mann and her husband, Mike, of Candler, Pamela Fisher of Granite Falls, NC, and Sally Abu-Ghoush of Asheville; four grandchildren, Amanda Fisher, Robbie Mann, Gabrielle and Emily Kern; and a special grand dog "Bluebelle". A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville with the Reverend Tony Sayer and the Reverend Joey Hoffman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County, 146 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC 28801.
