Robert Franklin

Waynesville-Robert Britt Franklin, age 92, of Sutton Town Road went home to be with his wife, Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and life long resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Amanda Jane Sutton Franklin. Mr. Franklin was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Gladys Louise Carver Franklin who died in October 2006; one daughter Elaine Putnam; son Clarence Franklin; seven brothers, Hobert, Neil, Dewey, Virgil, Eugene, Orville and Earl ; and three sisters, Nettie, Ada and Minnie. He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Combat. Mr. Franklin retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation Maintenance Department in 1977 with 30 years service. He was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church. He truly loved being outdoors and working in his wood shed. He is survived by three sons, Richard Franklin and his wife, Peggy, James Franklin and his wife, Brenda and Michael Franklin and his wife, Angie all of Sutton Town; two sisters, Lois Erwin and Katie Messer both of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Kim Holt, Missy Rich, Darren Franklin, Jason and Wes Putnam and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Ted Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 47 and VFW Post 5202. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Michael Franklin, 61 Rich Putnam Drive, Waynesville. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
