Robert Gerichek

Clyde- Robert Henry "Bob" Gerichek - age 78 died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was born in New York and served in the Merchant Marines for 7 years and then in the Korean conflict. He retired from New York State as boiler inspector and then moved to North Carolina where he was supervisor of the power plant at Western Carolina University for several years. Mr. Gerichek was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry and Elizabeth Gerichek; a sister, Lillian Pacella and his first wife, Vera Kane Gerichek. He loved the water and enjoyed scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and camping. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved doing things to make his family comfortable and happy. He also had a great love for animals, especially dogs and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Gwilli Gerichek; step-children, David Brendell of Candler, Janna Brendell of Clyde and Brad Brendell of Lake Junaluska and a nephew Michael Pacella of Bloomingburg, NY. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Perry Brindley and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Vernon Russell, R.W. Stuart, Eugene Shepherd, Skipper Cannon, Bruce Watts, Richard Marshall, Lawrence Lanning and David Marcus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 259 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716 or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786.
