Robert “Bob” Goodwin, 84, of Asheville passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, April 24, 2021. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was born January 20, 1937 to the late Chester and Minnie Davis Goodwin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Judy T. Goodwin in 2007 and son, Ronald E. Goodwin.
Bob served in the US Army in Japan and briefly spent time in Korea as a member of the military police. Following his military service, he moved to Asheville, NC where he met and married Judy. Bob and Judy moved to Thomasville, NC where they raised their two boys and two girls. They relocated back to Asheville in 1977. Bob owned Goodwin’s VW Repair until his retirement in 2004 to care for his wife. He loved to ride motorcycles and continued riding until age 83. An avid church member, he gained many wonderful friends there.
He is survived by his daughters, Tommi Yearout and her husband, Scott, and Bobbi Vander Veen and her husband, Patrick; son John Goodwin and his wife Joy; his grandchildren, Brooks and his wife Stacey Jenkins, Amanda Jenkins, Patrick Opheim , Alina Opheim, Alyssa Opheim, Jessica Redmon, Bailey Yearout, Madison Yearout, and Eli Yearout, and great-grandchildren, Khloey and Jayden. He is also survived by dear friends Rickey and Carmella Hall. He will be greatly missed by all of us and many more.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p. m., on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, NC. Reverend Davis Plemmons will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The care of Mr. Goodwin has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler
