Robert Gough

Waynesville, Robert "Paul" Gough, age 97, of West Marshall Street, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011. He was a native of Yadkin County, and was the son of the late Robert Arvil and Phiza Elizabeth Gough. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Gough, Maude New and Mabel Smith. Paul served in the European Campaign of WWII as an Army Staff Sergeant from February 1942 until October 1945. Robert retired from Dayco Corporation with 24 years' service and was a member of the Waynesville Police Department for eleven years. He was a member of the Waynesville First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge # 259 AF&AM. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bernice Gough; a son, Ronald Gough of Asheville, NC; a daughter, Carol Gough of Charlotte, NC ; two sisters, Mary Sue King and Sally Shaffer, both of Winston-Salem, NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the Chapel of the Waynesville First Baptist Church with Dr. Reverend Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow in Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
