Robert Greene

Waynesville-Robert "Jay" Greene, age 74, of Ratcliffe Cove community passed away peacefully to be at home with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Marion and Bertha Haney Green. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Sanford and three brothers, Clarence, Hobert and Howard Greene. His heart was with Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. Jay was a very talented builder and carpenter and was always making special projects for his family and friends. He also enjoyed horseback riding and coon hunting. During his later years he enjoyed visiting and sharing meals with his friends. Jay always had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Cora Lee Ledford; two sons, Dale Greene and his wife, Lana of Canton and Dean Greene and his wife, Debbie of Waynesville; one sister Mazie Harrell of Waynesville; two granddaughters, Morgan and Amanda Greene and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Jones and Reverend Billy Ferguson. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Cora Lee Ledford. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Parrott, Earl, Kevin, and Keith Greene, Henry Rathbone, Bob Clark, Doug Edwards and Charlie Parris. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Angel, J.D. Hill, Don Moore, Dean Reeves and Dean Medford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church, 1300 Ratcliff Cove Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
