Robert Gregory "Greg" Buckner

Robert Gregory “Greg” Buckner, 57, of Clyde passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert F. Buckner, Jr. and Juanita Trantham.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by son, Robert Gregory Buckner, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Georgia Trantham; paternal grandparents, Katherine Buckner and Robert Frank Buckner, Sr. and uncle, Wayne Trantham.

For most of his life, Greg was a truck driver and went by the c.b. handle, Midnight Rider.  He owned and operated Buckner Express and had worked for Spartan Express and Citizens Express. One of his favorite past times was attending the races.  He loved talking to friends and since he never met a stranger, making new friends. Greg and Donna also owned and operated a haunted house in Asheville, he loved to give folks a fright. Greg was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Donna Stevenson Buckner; daughter, Jessica Buckner (Jordan Sherrill) of Bryson City; son, Justin Buckner (Skyler) of Clyde; three sisters, Mary Ann Buckner of Asheville, Karen Buckner and Sonya Ledford, of Charlotte; brother, Steve Gregory of Asheville; aunt, Judith Johnson of Clyde and seven grandchildren, Jayden, Jerry, Timmy, Maci, Bryson, Lainey and Trenton.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Pastor Dennis Anderson and Pastor Garry Rogers will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
