Robert Henson

Robert Lee Henson, age 72, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Rufus and Bessie Wooten Henson. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Weldon Henson and a sister, Hilda Henson Mann. He retired from Champion International in 1997 with 23 years of service as a forklift operator. He was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. Robert was a volunteer fireman with Center Pigeon Fire Department for 37 years and was the assistant fire chief for more than ten years. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Robert had a special place in his heart for his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Henson, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Henson Dailey, of Canton; a son, Wentfard Lee Henson and wife, Wilma, of Clyde; five sisters, Lillian Clark and husband, Ted, of Waynesville; Betty Henson of Canton, Mavis Henson of Canton, Mary Lou Henson and husband, Vanise, of Canton and Nancy Wilson and husband, Sherrill, of Candler; and two grandchildren, Alicia Henson and Kendall Dailey as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton and Reverend Darryl Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at 125 Abbott Road, Canton.
