Clyde, Robert Lynn Hopkins, 87, of Mallard Trail passed away on Wednesday, January, 1, 2014 at his residence. A native of New London, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Ray G. and Elsie Atkins Hopkins. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during WWII. Robert earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Rochester and received his Masters Degree at Penn State. He was one of the founders of the National Semi-Conductor Company and worked as a Physicist. Robert loved reading, railroads, taking rides in the mountains, and the U.S. space program. He built his own house in 1990 in the mountains of Panther Creek /Clyde. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Richards Hopkins; three daughters, Linda Thornton and her husband, Rodney, of Riverdale, Georgia, Gale Garry and her husband, Fran, of Middletown, Maryland and Donna Westland and her husband, John, of Port Charlotte, Florida; a son, David R. Hopkins and his wife, Kim, of Deerfield, New Hampshire; a brother, I. Ray Hopkins of Milles, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Shawn Stevens, Matthew and Kelly Parsons and Craig Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Bella and Noah Stevens; and special friends, Jose and Lynnette Baez. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's Chapel Open Door Ministry, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
