Robert Graham Hunter, Sr., age 84, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Joseph's Campus of Mission Hospital. He was a native of Buncombe County, but resided in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Robert Hunter and Thelma Hunter Wooster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Shuler Hunter who died in March 2005, and also a son, George Thomas Hunter who died in 2001. Mr. Hunter served in the United States Air Force for 42 months and was a WWII Veteran. He retired from Southern Railway in 1982 after 35 years of service. He became a Mason at Hominy Lodge #491 in 1956, York Rite in 1971, Shriner in 1972, Scottish Rite in 1994. He was awarded Appreciaton For Service to support the Shriner's Burn Center and Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital. He was also a member of Canton First Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Robert Graham "Bobby" Hunter, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Enka; one step-daughter, Faye Norman and her husband, Doug of Crestview, FL; one step-son, David Burris and his wife, Susie of Waynesville; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Rick Gosnell officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
