Robert Justice

October 29, 1933 — October 6, 2017

"Beloved Husband, Dad & PaPaw "

Clyde, Robert O'Neal Justice (Neal) passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the age of 83, soon to be 84. A life-long resident of Haywood County, he was born on October 29, 1933 to the late Richard S and Elvira Rhinehart Justice. He was predeceased by 4 brothers: L J Wood, Eugene Wood, Ernest Wood, and Glynden R "Bud" Justice and 5 sisters: Carrie Hill, Mabel Henderson, Quaye Hill, Hazel Stevens and Joretta Wallin, also numerous nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Mathews Justice; 2 sons, Bobby D Justice (Sherry) and Gary E Justice (Sheila); 1 daughter Sharon J Clendenin (Craig); sister, Bonnie Sue Irwin (Richie), of Grass Valley, California; and was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Colby Justice, Erin Sutton, Chelsea Hall, Rachel Justice and 3 Great-Grandchildren: Justice and Tucker Sutton and Greyson Hall.

After attending Crabtree Iron Duff School, he proudly served in the US Army in Germany as a SP Patrol Officer from 1953-1955. Upon his return to the states, he soon became employed at American Enka (BASF) from which he retired with 40 years of service.

Neal loved his family and the wonderful mountains of Western North Carolina. While able, he would regularly be found trout fishing, hunting, digging ginseng or picking blackberries. He had a heart of gold and delighted in giving to others, particularly the dozens of gallons of black berries he shared with friends over the years.

Neal loved to sing and had a beautiful tenor voice. He was a member of Crabtree Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for years. His passion for singing went well beyond the choir. Family gatherings where the siblings would join together in song were truly amazing. Those who knew Neal best know that any gathering presented a potential audience to share a message in song or his passion for story-telling. He was also an avid sports fan with a special passion for college basketball.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Crabtree Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Dean presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 2:00 pm.
