Waynesville, Robert Lewis Kirkpatrick, age 67, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lewis Alvin and Cora Lee Messer Kirkpatrick and was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Kevin Kirkpatrick. He retired from the NC DOT where he worked as a diesel mechanic. Robert enjoyed restoring classic cars and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and also liked to travel, especially to the beach. Robert adored his family, and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat Kirkpatrick; a daughter, Shannon Penland (Derrick) of Waynesville; daughter-in-law, Kelly Lance (Travis) of Sylva; three sisters, Barbara Price of Newport, Tennessee, Vivian Hill (Ronnie) of Clyde and Debbie Hester of Sylva; grandsons, Jacob Penland, Jarrett Penland, and Corban Kirkpatrick; granddaughters, Kylie Kline (D.J. Kline, Jr.) and Hayden Bowers; several nieces and nephews; and many special extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Panther Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ronald Greene and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
