Robert Lewis Lowe, Jr., age 50, of 6 Paradise Mountain Road, died February 5, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of Haywood County and spent his childhood in Jackson County. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1974 in Lawton, OK and was employed by Phillips as a window assembler. He was a member of Balsam Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, woodworking and loved to work with his hands. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was an OS2 operations specialist aboard the USS Charles F. Adams. In addition to his parents, Robert "R. L." and Gin Lowe of Crescent City, FL, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Diane Putnam Lowe; a daughter, Katie Lynn Lowe of Canton; a son, Zachary Colin Putnam and his wife, Cindy of Clyde and a granddaughter, Mariah Putnam. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Balsam Baptist Church with the Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Division of Abdominal Transplant, UNC-Chapel Hill, 2110 Bioinformatics Building, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7211.
