Robert Macmillan

Robert "Rob" MacMillan, age 82, of Happy Hill Road, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare. A native of Raleigh, he grew up in Chapel Hill before living in Haywood County for the past 22 years. He was a son of the late W. Dougald III and Laura Thompson MacMillan and is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary McCrea MacMillan. Rob retired in 1985 from E. F. Hutton as a stockbroker with 25 years of service and was a U. S. Navy veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Canton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert MacMillan, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Gaston MacMillan of Berkeley, CA and John MacMillan and his wife Emily of Winston-Salem, NC; one step-son, N. J. "Chip" Brown of Baldwin, GA; two daughters, Giles MacMillan and Laura Adams, both of Wilmington, NC; one step-daughter, Natali Ann Brown of Waynesville; a twin brother, W. Dougald MacMillan, IV and his wife Victoria of Fayetteville, NC; 10 grandchildren, Daniel and Laura Adams, Kathleen Bissonnette, Clara, Emma, Elizabeth, Duncan, Stuart, Sophia and Raechel MacMillan; 2 step-grandchildren, Cadence and Glynis Brown and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Elizabeth Adams. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Canton with Father Tim McRee officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Greenhill Columbarium with military services conducted by VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
