Robert Davis

April 18, 1940 — October 13, 2004

Waynesville-Robert Max Davis, age 64, passed from one family to another Wednesday morning, October 13, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Max and Edna Crawford Davis. Robert along with his siblings, Roy, Tulen, Esther, and Hester were raised with a strong mountain heritage. Robert was a husband, a Daddy, a papaw, a grandpa, and a brother. He lived his life devoting it to others. Robert was married for 44 years to the love of his life, Jean, and with her, raised two sons, Jim and Richie. He was a craftsman of leather, knives, and such; a builder of family and friendships; and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed. Robert was rarely seen without a smile on his face. After years of dedicated service to Blue Ridge Papers, he was known for helping many others. He was an avid handyman for anyone who asked. And, in the process of fixing a pipe or a car, he always entertained with jokes and stories. Many observed this at his craft shop where he entertained people while personalizing their leather apparel. Robert was so proud of his wife, two sons, and grandchildren. He was careful not to waste his time, preferring to spend it with his children and grandchildren as they grew up. He was always there for them during every game and at every practice, he could be found on the sidelines or in the grandstands. Afternoons and weekends were spent throwing ball, playing basketball, eating watermelon, and just watching TV with those he loved. He entertained the grandkids with lawnmower rides, assisted in climbing apple trees, building playhouses, supervising sled rides, renovating, advising, gardening, and traveling. He was a Red Cross volunteer, a cancer survivor, and a jack-of-all-trades. He was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by two sons, Jim, and his wife, Julie, and Richie and his wife, Dianna; two sisters, Tulen Kirkpatrick and Esther McCall; three granddaughters, Ashley, Tyffany and Brandi Davis, one step-granddaughter, Ashley White; three grandsons, Jake, John Jr., and Chase Davis; and three step-grandsons, Andrew and Tyler White. The celebration of a life well lived will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Red Cross, Haywood Chapter, 1668 Brown Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.
