Robert Mcclain

Waynesville-Robert Lee ''Bob'' McClain, age 81, died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Knox County, Tennessee, having lived most of his life in Miami, Florida before moving to Haywood County in 1988. He was the son of the late Allen F. and Nina Jean Livengood McClain. He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving as a First Sergeant under General Patton in seven major battles and three beachhead landings, including Algeria, France, Morocco, Rome, South France, Sicily, Tunisia, and Rhineland Central Europe.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida Ganzert McClain; three daughters, Cynthia Ladkani, and her husband, William, of Crystal River, Florida, Rosa Lee Bevis of Waynesville, and Betty Jean Remy and her husband, Jim, of Trinity, Florida; one brother, Allen French McClain, III, of Blue Ridge, Georgia; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military services conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2003 at the funeral home.
