Robert Mills

Waynesville, Robert "Bob" Mills, age 86, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Jackson County and was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Melton Mills. He was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Bob was an employee of Massie Furniture Company for 13 years and Belks, where he retired with 25 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church where he was a deacon for 50 years and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Gideons International and served on the executive committee of The Haywood Baptist Association. He served on the board of directors at Broyhill Childrens Home and attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Bob was known for his dedicated support for The Baptist Childrens Home and attended 47 of the 51 Broyhill area conferences. He was a Mason for 64 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Georgie Mills, two daughters, Beverly Griffin and Deborah McAllister (Tom), all of Waynesville; two brothers, Ed Mills of Maggie Valley and Tom Mills of Waynesville; 5 grandchildren; Kip, Scott, John, Amber and Josh and 9 great-grandchildren; Elizabeth, Brooke, Madison, Alexis, Tim, Dakota, KJ, Nick and James. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Reverend Virgil Holloway, Reverend Bobby Downs and Reverend John Reid will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Kip Griffin, KJ Griffin, Scott Griffin, Frank Griffin, Jr., Jay Propest, Lloyd Parton, John Fields and Joshua Fields. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at Bob's home.
