Waynesville-Robert Vincent Netherton, age 60, of 108 Hodges Drive, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he had lived in Haywood County since 1977. He was the son of the late Morris and Reba DeHart Netherton and was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Glenn Netherton. He was a graduate of Erwin High School and attended Asheville Buncombe Technical College. He was a former area sales representative for R.J. Reynolds and Ligget Myers Tobacco Companies. He was a veteran of the US Army National Guard. Robert loved building and restoring cars, one of which was a 1915 T-Bucket. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed going to turkey shoots and took a lot of pride in the landscape and appearance of his home. He attended Allens Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jackie Sue Cook Netherton. Although his only family was his wife, Jackie, he had extended family and many friends that were considered "family", two in particular, Emma Morris, whom he affectionately called "Punkin" and Will Stowers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Eddie Deitz and Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Stowers, Lou Simpson, Chuck Rector, Ron Leatherwood, Bill Morris, and Tom Alexander. Memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Project, 549 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786, Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 255 Amos Arrington Road, Clyde, NC 28721, or one's favorite charity.
