Robert Vincent Owens, age 84, of Cruso Road, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of Cherokee County but had resided in Haywood County since 1946 and was a son of the late Jerry and Martha Myers Owens. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hettie Campbell; six brothers, Dillard, Harley, Joe, Arnold, Edward and Howard Owens, and one daughter, Judy Davis. Robert was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and a United States Marine Veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. He retired from Champion International in 1984 with 34 years of service. Robert enjoyed trout fishing the mountain streams of North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Stella Reece Owens; two daughters, Linda Greene and her husband, Danny, of Canton, and Audrey Cooley, and her husband David, of Greenville, SC; one sister, Mable Panther of Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Foster and Reverend Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
