Robert Penland

Robert Vernon Penland, 88, of Leicester was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Thursday, March 02, 2017. Bob was born August 25, 1928 and married Virginia Pauline Sharpe on May 10, 1947. Pauline remained a faithful companion until the end. He was ordained as a Baptist preacher in 1954 and pastored many area churches. He also preached on 3 area radio stations. Bob was a longtime faithful member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church and never failed to let his light shine, witnessing to many wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reggie and Lila Shepherd Penland, son, W. Creed Penland, Sr.; brothers, Grover, Creed, Troy, Huelon, and Leonard Penland; sisters, Ruth Penland, Dollie Crabtree and Paris Rocket and great-granddaughter, Kori Penland.
Bob is survived by his wife, Pauline; son, Donald Penland; grandchildren, Rebecca(who he took in as his own child), Lila, William and Brian Penland and Leah Brumeloe; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Tyler Messer, Ivory Brumbeloe, Gabriel, Alyson and Kerry Penland and great-great grandchildren, Ryder Messer, Wilbur, Lula and Julyssa Sequoyah and Asher Ivey; sisters, Ivory Parham and Marjorie Robinson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 04, 2017 at Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, Leicester with Joe Sluder, Keith Holcombe and Gene Turner officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers, Robbie and Tyler Messer, Brian Penland, Caleb and Adam Sluder and Mark King will carry him to his rest in the church cemetery.
