Clyde, George Robert Shook, age 79, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Millard and Mary Lou Peek Shook. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Robert "Bobby" Shook; one sister and one brother. Robert was a 27 year employee of Champion International and was a member of East Waynesville Baptist Church. He was a founding member of the Crabtree-Iron Duff Volunteer Fire Department serving his community for the past 43 years. He enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emelyn McCracken Shook; one daughter, Betty Jean Butrick, and her husband, Daniel, of Clyde; one sister, Mary Linda Martin, of Marietta, Ohio; two grandchildren, Geoffry Shook and Dana Butrick. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Ray Sharpe officiating. Burial will follow at the Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Shook, Greg McCracken, Andy McCracken, Billy McCracken, Troy Lee McCracken, Rodney Norton, Douglas Chambers, Bill Souther and Charles Free. Honorary Pallbearers will be Edgar McElroy, Danny McElroy, Larry Chambers, Tracy McCracken and the Crabtree Iron Duff Firemen.
