Robert Smith

Robert Wilburn Smith, 77, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Ola Mae Kerley Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Worley Smith, who died on June 16, 2011; five brothers; and two sisters. Robert retired from Champion International with 35 years of service and was a member of High Street Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by a son, Roger A. Smith and his wife, Belinda, of Canton; two sisters, Thelma Souther of Horseshoe and Marie Hipps of Fairview; four grandchildren, Brandon, Britany, Taylor and Sayrah; and one great-grandchild, Vayda. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Christopher Willett officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff of Canton Christian Convalescent Nursing Home for the care of their father.
