"Loving Husband and Brother"

Waynesville, Robert Louis Stephens, 67, of the Jonathan Creek Community, passed away on Friday, December 01, 2017 at his residence.

A native of Halifax County, Virginia, he was a longtime resident of Haywood County. He was the son of the late Robert Richard and Edna Mae Clute Stephens and was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Frick. He was a US Army veteran, having received many citations including the prestigious Purple Heart while serving during the Vietnam Era. Robert's favorite pastime was showing his cars, a 1973 Dodge Challenger, and 1997 and 1998 Mustang. He also enjoyed spending time with his boxer, "Dede" Chihuahua, "Tidbit" and pit bull, "Boots."

In addition to his parents, Robert is survived by his wife of seven years, Shelby Page Stephens; sons, Robert Ray Stephens of Elgin, South Carolina and David Louis Stephens of Richmond, Virginia; a stepson, Tyler Dallas Cagle and fiancée, Shanna Lynn Parker, of Waynesville; sisters, Jennifer Burleson of Candler and Brenda Templin and husband, Jim, also of Tennessee; brother-in-law, John Page and his wife, Vicki, of Waynesville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one special niece and nephew; and two great nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with military honors at the conclusion of the visitation.
