Robert Lee "Bob" Sutton, age 78, of Holland Road died on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Isaac Luther and Emma Gentry Sutton. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Weldon, Charles, and Ray Sutton. He retired in 1994 from Champion International with 38 years of service as a supervisor for No. 17 and 18 machines and the Chemical Preparation Department. He was a member of Plains United Methodist Church. Bob served as Canton Little League baseball coach for 15 years, was a member of Snug Harbor Champion Papers Retirees, and a member of Canton YMCA, Y's Men's Club. Bob was an avid fan of Pisgah High School softball, having been there for the team during the State Championship of 2011. He also enjoyed antique car collecting and attending car shows. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Yates Sutton; a daughter, Phyllis S. Albury and Steve Hipps of Waynesville; two sons, Roger L. Sutton of Canton and Ricky D. Sutton of Saylorsburg, PA; two sisters, Ruth Snow of Clyde and Mary Rogers of Hendersonville; a brother, I. L. Sutton, Jr. of Clyde; five grandchildren, Stephanie and Brittany Sutton, Matthew and Ben Wheeler, and Yancey Sutton; and two great-grandchildren, Drew Smith and Justin Wheeler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ryan C. Snider and Reverend Wayne Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
