Robert Sanford

Canton - Robert Woodrow "Cobby" Sanford, age 85, of the Dutch Cove Community died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a native of Haywood County and lived most of his life in South Florida until retiring back home to Canton. He was the son of the late James A. and Carey Robinson Sanford. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sophia Justice Sanford who died in 1995. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Sanford and a daughter, Teresa Sanford Biers. He retired from Florida Power & Light Company in 1984 with 35 years of service. He was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Robert loved the outdoors, traveling, playing music and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Miami Dolphins. He was a United States Army veteran serving overseas in World War II. In addition to his wife, Ella Hall Sanford, he is survived by a daughter Gwen S. Gouge and her husband, Charles of Vero Beach, FL; two sons, James H. Sanford and his wife, Robin of Cocoa, FL and Eugene F. Sanford and his wife, Pamela of Atlanta, GA; a step-daughter, Brenda Worley and her husband, Joe; a step-son, Ernest Hall and his wife, Juanita all of Canton; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Ed Lowder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A graveside committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion.
