Roberta Hamlin

Roberta Sparks Hawkins Hamlin, age 78, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Wayne Albert and Georgina Thompson Sparks. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles C. Hawkins, who died in 1984. She enjoyed going to yard sales and oil painting. She was a greeter at Wal-Mart and a hostess at Stevens Pub. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, James E. Hamlin; a daughter, Carla Maddux and her husband, Michael; a son Matney Wayne Hawkins and his wife, Tammy, two sisters, Tula Rose Swafford and Freida Edith Burrell; a brother, Robert Sparks; five grandchildren; Ashley, Jeff Chris, Mark, and Wyatt; and ten great-grandchildren, Lyla, Violet, Elijah, Mya, Gracie, Zeke, Cole, Cooper, Abigail, and Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helpmate, P. O. Box 2263, Asheville, NC 28802 which is Buncombe County's local domestic violence agency.
