Roberta Shell

Waynesville, Roberta Ann Hall Shell, age 77, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at her residence. A native of Riverview, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ann Irons Hall. Roberta attended Asbury College and later owned her own employment agency, with her husband Hugh, in California. While on vacation in Savannah, Georgia, Roberta and Hugh bought two historic homes and in time created a successful upscale bed and breakfast, the Gastonian, on Gaston Street. While living in Savannah, she was also the chairman of the Women's Republican Party. Upon retirement, Roberta and Hugh moved to Ft. Lauderdale until his passing in 2000. In 2002, Roberta married John Shell and they decided to move to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Roberta and John were happily retired and enjoyed traveling and visiting family. She was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Roberta and John were instrumental in the creation of the Celebrate Recovery Ministry at the church. Roberta had a gift with organization and had a resilience and firmness that facilitated the success of the program. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, John Lewis Shell; one son, Brent Bielby, and his wife, Cobi, of Rancho Cucamonga, California; two daughters, Christie Bielby, of Austin, Texas and Jo Alice Brooks, of Riverside, California; three step-daughters, Julie Cincotta, and her husband, Joseph, of Wilmington, Vermont, Jillian Lehman, of Richmond, Virginia and Janice Scholl, of Ashland, Oregon; one brother, Bob Hall, and his wife, Patty, of Kentucky; one sister, Betty Hall, of Florida; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Tim McConnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service in the Venue at the church. Memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, General Fund, P.O.
