Rodney Phillips

Waynesville-Rodney Luther Phillips, 29 of Burma Road, died Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center.

He was a native of Buncombe County and a son of Luther Phillips and Sharon Rogers. He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Phillips, great-grandfather, Ephen Sutton and a grandfather, Eddie Rogers. He was employed by Davey's Tree Service as a climber with 3 years of service. He was of the catholic faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting and Nascar racing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-mother, Wanda Phillips of Canton, one daughter, Elizabeth Phillips and one son, Jacob Phillips, both of Celina, OH, four sisters, Tracy Wright of Elizabethton, TN, Angie McKissack of Celina, OH, Mandi Robinson of Waynesville, Carrie Robinson of Dayton, OH, one brother, Tim Phillips of Canton, paternal grandparents, Claude and Iva Lee Phillips and maternal grandmother, Betty Jo Kilby all of Waynesville, paternal great-grandmother, Nellie Sutton of NJ, step-grandmother, Kay Coffey of Marble, NC and several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Carl Chastain and Reverend Michelle Chappell officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery on Coffee Branch Road. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at their homes. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Phillips, John Coffey, Randy Phillips, Patton Phillips, Freddie Reece and Billy Gaskill. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Phillips, Tony Braswell, Dewayne Rathbone, Robbie Davis, Todd Miller and David Coffey.
