Waynesville, Roe C. Reece, age 95, of 62 Oshea Lane, went to Heaven on December 19, 2013. Born on June 15, 1918 in Clay County, he and his family moved and lived most of their lives in Waynesville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Eva Reece; his wife of 56 years, Wilma Phillips Reece; two sons, Jesse Charles "J.C." and Wade L. Reece. He worked with the CCCs for several years during the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Newfound Gap Overlook. Roe proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II and later retired from Dayco. For 15 years, he also volunteered countless hours with the Haywood County Rescue Squad. Roe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and camping. He is survived by two sons, Larry Reece of Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Gary Reece of Maggie Valley and his daughters, Nichole and Coty Reece; one daughter-in-law, Beth Reece, of Maggie Valley; grandson, Chris Reece and his wife, Carla, and children, Jessie, Tucker, and Ben and grandson, Patrick Reece and his wife, Brandy and children, Brittany and Dylan; and two sisters, Stella Owens and Eva Mae Burress and husband, Carroll, of Canton. He is also survived by his very special friend, Kathryn Hyatt, who added many years of joy to his life. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kris Estep and Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services.
