Canton – Roger Carroll Burress, 70, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Cumming, Georgia.
Roger was a native of Cruso Community and the son of Walter Carroll and Eva Mae Reece Burress. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melinda Baldwin Burress, who died in 1981 and a brother, Randy Darrell Burress.
Roger was employed with Solvay Specialty Polymers as a research and development specialist with 30 years of service. He was a 1970 graduate of Pisgah High School. Roger was a member of East Fork Baptist Church and served in the mission field in Haiti and the West Indies. Roger was a beloved husband, father, friend and “PaPaw” to many.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Martha Burress; three daughters, Wendy Rector (Chuck) of Canton, Amy Devlin (Davey) of Horse Shoe and Nicole Mathis (Brandon) of Canton; four sons, Matt Burress (Cristina) of Canton, Perry Pope (Sara) of Greeneville, Tennessee, Nate Pope (Patsy) of Johnson City, Tennessee and Vaughn Pinson (Evie) of Cumming, Georgia; a brother, David Neil Burress (Ceil) of Sylva; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Archie Gilmer and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
