Maggie Valley, Roger Wade Ferguson, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his residence. Roger was a native of Haywood County, the son of the late Charles Anderson and Jincie Hyatt Ferguson and was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wayne Ferguson. Roger grew up on the family dairy farm in Dellwood and then joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS John F. Kennedy as a flight deck crew chief. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he lived the balance of his life in the Great Smoky Mountains he dearly loved. With an open mind and a strong desire to improve his sons' lives, he worked a wide range of jobs, including Frigidaire for 19 years. Roger was an extremely proud and vocal supporter of his two children. He enjoyed riding through the mountains in his Miata or on his motorcycle. Later in life he volunteered with the Veterans Administration, the National Park Service, and joined the Ridgerunners Miata Club. Roger is survived by two sons, Michael Ferguson and his wife, Elizabeth, of San Antonio, Texas and Eric Ferguson and his wife, Kimmy of Atlanta; two brothers, Samuel Ferguson and his wife, Shirley and Edwin Ferguson and his wife, Belinda, of Maggie Valley; six grandchildren, Crist, Faye, Lily, Audrey, Chloë and Lauren. Also, by his beloved partner, Tina Suttles Kahler of Maggie Valley and a special buddy, Vincent. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 23, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Buff officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, 160 South Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
