Roger Ray

Roger Dale Ray, 64, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children in Candler, NC on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 after a courageous fight with cancer. A native of Asheville, he was the son of the late Claude Lee Ray and Lena Sue Ray. He enjoyed spending time with his family, looking after his dogs, writing books, politics, fishing and making people laugh (a lot). He will be remembered for his love of family, patriotism, hard work, sense of humor and wise words (just when you need them).
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Courtney and Hazel Bailey; first wife and mother of his children, Debra Ray.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Ray, who he married on June 14, 2017 after a ten year loving courtship; brother Braskey Ray (Weaverville, NC); sister Myrtle Riddle (Asheville, NC); children Christina Ray Cox (Saluda, NC), Amy Ray Perkins and husband Neil, (Saluda, NC) and Jason Lee Ray (Fletcher, NC); Step-children, Justin Land (Harrison, AR), Sierra Land-Mulkey (Pueblo, CO), Cody DeWolfe (Pueblo, CO), Michaela DeWolfe (Pueblo, CO; granddaughters he loved deeply, Kaitlyn Owenby and McKinley Perkins; step-grandchildren, Jace and Kanan Mulkey and Kalel Sikes; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friend, Danny Cook and Sheila Bell.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00am in the Chapel of Faith, Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn.
