Waynesville-Roger Carroll Woodard, age 70, of Winchester Drive, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
He was born in Gaston County, and spent his younger years in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Caleb Adam and Vinnie Rogers Woodard. He was also preceded in death by a sister Flora Woodard Evans.
He was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and Mars Hill College. He also graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California, where he lived and was associated with the American Broadcasting Company for 42 years. He returned to Waynesville in 1997, where he has a number of classmates and friends from his high school days.
He is survived by his sister, Novella Woodard McNeill and her husband, Reverend W. W. McNeill, of Waynesville; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, one uncle and three aunts.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. The Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. and Reverend Dr. R. Wright Spears will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at 70 Winchester Drive, Waynesville.
The pallbearers will be Gary and Ricky Dillard, Jim and Terry Jo Woodard, Ken Stephenson, and Edward Marks.
