Roland Owens

Waynesville, Roland Bruce Owens, age 92, of 21 Dovetail Lane, died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Pitt County, NC, he was the son of the late John Elverson and Neta Fulford Owens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Moody Owens, who died in 2003 and a brother, Olin Owens. Mr. Owens built the old Dellwood Baptist Church, of which he was a member. He operated the A & H Restaurant in downtown Waynesville and later the Yum Yum Restaurant in Lake Junaluska during the 60's. He then managed cafeterias for the Canteen Corporation until his retirement. He is survived by two sons, Andrew W. Owens and his wife, Kim, of Tulsa, OK and Don B. Owens of Lincolnton, NC; one sister, Hazel Owens, of GA; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Dellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Jim Johnson officiating.
