Maggie Valley, Ronald Francis "Ron" DeSimone, 62, of Brannon Forest, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Angela M. DeSimone of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and the late Frank S. DeSimone. Ron was a 1971 graduate of McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida and also graduated from Broward Community College before attending the University of Miami. He worked for several truss construction companies and became a commercial and residential contractor in 1980. Moving to Haywood County in 1999, he established his own construction company in 2002, Ron DeSimone Contracting LLC. In 2011 he successfully ran and won the office of Mayor of the town of Maggie Valley and was currently serving in that position. He was a member and past president of the Haywood County Home Builder's Association and was a licensed real estate broker. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, music and playing his guitar, and was also an avid reader, and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In addition to his mother, Ron is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joann Corriveau DeSimone; two daughters, Carolyn DeSimone of Clinton, Tennessee and Jennifer Smith and husband, Taylor, of Belmont, North Carolina; a sister, Patricia DeSimone, of Maggie Valley; two brothers, Robert DeSimone and spouse, Nick Dagenais of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts and Frank DeSimone of Santa Barbara, California; and other close family members. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Waynesville with Father Christopher Riehl officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Brannon Forest Club House, 56 Rockin Chair Lane in Maggie Valley.
