Candler, As we approach this holiday season of Christmas we give thanks for the life of a beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Ronald Eugene Downs. Ronnie, age 64, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Ronnie's faith and courage allowed him to minister to the many friends and family who came to visit him during his four month illness.

Ronnie was born in Haywood County and was the son of the late Herman Edgar and Louise Elliott Downs. He graduated from Tuscola High School in 1972 and was employed as the bulk division supervisor for Southern Concrete Materials in Fletcher. Ronnie enjoyed working on cars and he took great pride in working in his yard to keep it immaculate. Ronnie also loved to cook BBQ and cherished the time he could spend with his family and friends. Ronnie was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Linda Wright Downs; his daughter, Heidi Moriarty, and her husband, Craig, of Clyde; two sisters, Barbara Parton, and her husband, Loyd and Brenda Swanger, and her husband, Reverend Johnny Swanger; two brothers, Reverend Bobby Downs, and his wife, Janine and Gary Downs, and his wife, Susan, all of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Lexi Danelle Gaddis and Logan Dale Gaddis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jack and Norma Moody, of Hayesville; several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

His funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Swanger, Reverend John Swanger, III and Reverend Ricky Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Marvin Monteith, Ricky Gaddis, Gary Allen, Rufus Downs, Jeff Palmer, Doyce Stevens, Jeremy Parton, and Phil Postell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of Calvary Road Baptist Church, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786.
