Ronald “Red” Gosnell, 74, of Candler died on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth T. Hall. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Lee Taylor.
Ronnie served in the US Army for two years, including a one-year deployment to Vietnam. He was a graduate of Enka High School and retired from Carolina CAT. A shade tree mechanic in his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed classic cars, attending car shows and all types of auto racing. He loved to fish and was a lifetime fan of the Carolina Tar Heels. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 49 years, Bonnie B. Gosnell; daughters, Rhonda Zvara and her husband, John of Gold Hill, NC and Brandy Gosnell of Candler; brother, Phillip Hall and his companion, Barbara Derrick of Candler; sister, Judith Dodson and Lois Smith and her husband, Edward all of Candler; niece, Angela Kim Justice of Mathews, VA and nephew, Alex Hall of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his special four-legged friend, “Nike” and numerous extended family members, as well as his church family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in the Wells Chapel of Faith with Reverend Ty Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Wells Chapel of Faith, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charles George VAMC Volunteer Services, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
The care of Mr. Gosnell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
