Ronald William Rush, age 93, of Rush Road died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Smoky Mountain Healthcare and Rehab Center. He was a native of Lakeland, FL and had resided in Haywood County for most of his life. He was the son of the late James Emory and Annie Palmer Rush. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Justice Rush, who died in 1997 and a brother, James Rush. He retired from Champion International as a maintenance supervisor with 41 years of service and was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church. Ronald was an avid gardener, growing vegetables, shrubbery, and flowers, especially rhododendron and azaleas. He loved sharing his vegetables and flowers with family and friends. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by four sisters, Estelle Marr of Charlotte, Juanita Evans of Hendersonville, and Elnora Peterson and Elaine Ensley and her husband, Richard, all of Candler; and a brother, Charles Rush and his wife, Susan, of Cullowhee Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Randall Tingle, Reverend James Hart, and Reverend Mike Leatherwood officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
