Waynesville, Special Operator 2nd Class Ronald Tyler Woodle, age 26, a US Navy SEAL, passed away on a training incident near Key West, Florida. He was one of the members of a small group of Navy SEALs who were engaged in dive training in the waters near Key West. Tyler was born in Asheville, North Carolina and was home schooled until high school and was a star soccer player at Asheville Christian Academy. He received a soccer scholarship for two years while attending Mars Hill College and also worked in construction. Tyler enlisted in the US Navy in 2007 with the intention of joining the Navy SEALs. Because of his dedication, passion, and incredible work ethic, he became part of a SEAL team based on the East Coast in October 2009. He was undergoing intensive training in preparation of deployment overseas. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Ronald McNair and Kathi Hyatt Woodle; two sisters, Jerica Woodle of Greenville, South Carolina and Sumer Christenbury and her husband, Craig, of Statesville, North Carolina; a niece, Ava Bella Christenbury; paternal grandmother, Betty Anderson Woodle of Rock Hill, SC and maternal grandmother, Laura Phillips Hyatt, of Waynesville; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Woodland Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Davis and Pastor Jimmy Dykes officiating. Upon returning to Waynesville, his body will be laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the US Navy Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the NSW Foundation, P.O. Box 5965, Virginia Beach, VA 23471. This foundation promotes health and welfare programs for the Naval Special Warfare community and eases the tremendous burden placed on the families of Naval Special Warfare.
