Rowena Buckner

Rowena Williams Buckner, age 95, of Mundy Field Road, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the home of her daughter. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Nettie Pressley Williams. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Junnie Revis. Mrs. Buckner was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a member of the choir, WMU Director, and Sunday School teacher for many years. She taught a Youth Class , Boys Class, and her last was a group of ladies, which she loved very much. She loved gardening and flowers, and she shared her Dahlias with many people. She is survived by her husband of 74 ½ years, William Kelly Buckner; one daughter, Ramona Blaylock and her husband, Frank of Canton; a twin sister, Leona Franklin of Silver Bluff Nursing Home; a niece, Gail Burress of Canton; a nephew, Phil Revis of North Wilkesboro, NC; and one grandson, Dr. Reginald Blaylock of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Don Reece and the Reverend Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as Pall Bearers are as follows: J.D. Oliver, Neil Kuykendall, Lawrence Lanning, Eugene Sheppard, Roy Griffin and Roger Singleton. Honorary Pall Bearers will be members of her Boy's Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716.
