Roy Blaine Henson of the Cruso Community, peacefully passed away at his residence in Haywood County on Sunday, February 18, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on December 13, 1939, in Haywood County, North Carolina, Roy leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment to God and his family.
Roy was known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his unwavering faith as a member of Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church. He was a man of the outdoors, finding joy in activities like hunting, fishing, and cooking. His warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.
He retired in 2001 from BASF, committing 43 years to his profession.
In his passing, Roy is reunited with his parents, Shay and Nellie Maude Green Henson; his son, Roger Henson, who passed in 1993; his grandson, Brandon "Bubba" Henson, who passed in 1999; a brother, Fred Henson; and a sister, Geraldine Heatherly.
Roy leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Glenda King Henson, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He is also survived by his children: Rick Henson (Donna) of Cruso, Marty Henson (Heather) of Piedmont, S.C., and Vickie Henson (Mary) of Greensboro, NC. Additionally, he leaves behind seven grandchildren: Tamika, Shay, Amber, Brooke, Starr, Ashley, Hannah, Zachary, and Zayne; and eleven great-grandchildren: Malik, Journey, Jeremy, Addison, Hadaleigh, Eliah, Evening, Eden, Hunter, Desiree, and John.
To honor Roy's life, a Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Peter A. Constantian and Brother Neill Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Roy Blaine Henson will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His loving legacy will live on through his family and many friends. May he rest in peace knowing he was cherished by many.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care, 43 Bowman Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
